St Johns vs Sir Edmund Hillary (Tuesday 15th October 2013)
Today was our first league match of the new season. The girls were excited to get the season started. We had a few key players missing tonight with Tyler and Jessica having other commitments so in stepped Sophie and Ellie-May.
The girls started well and it wasn't long until Kelsey scored a brilliant goal giving us a 1-0 lead. After more good play Kelsey took a shot from distance that slipped through the keepers fingers into the net to give us a two goal advantage. The defense were working well together but just before half time Sir Edmund Hillary scored to make it 2-1.
The girls started the second half brightly with Kelsey and Lily linking up well in attack. After some good work from Sir Edmund Hillary they scored again to equalise and make it 2-2. St Johns had most of the ball and Ellie-May and Daisy came close to scoring before the ball broke and Sir Edmund Hillary scored again to take the lead 2-3. All credit to our girls for continuing to pile on the pressure and push forward. Caitlyn and Sophie worked well together in defense and are showing the beginnings of a good partnership back there. With minutes remaining Kelsey showed her strength to beat a number of players down the wing before playing a ball into Lily who showed great composure in front of goal and scored to make it 3-3. Well done girls a good start to the season. See you all back at training after half term.
