Early Comprehension Skills are vital for childrens understanding of their reading. Even before they can read they can show comprehension of the story.
In both school reading books and bedtime books (reading for pleasure) there are so many opportunities to develop their understanding of stories and books.
Here are a few ideas of the kinds of questions / discussions you could have.
In school we use these symbols as prompts for discussion when reading and writing. For example if we focus on the love heart symbol... FEELING
How is that character feeling?
What made them feel that way?
Do you think they will still feel 'sad' at the end of the story?
At the back of their reading records are more details on the FANTASTICs. In the past we have made bookmarks with them on and prompt words for you to use in your book talk at home.
If you would like one of these please let us know when you email in your feedback.
