For today's English activity, choose one of the writing activities to complete about the picture of the two owls below. The picture is called First Flight.

 

Description

Write a description of the picture and think about what may be happening. You may describe the two owls and the setting. Remember to include lots of adjectives for detail.

Use these questions to help you:

  • How are the owls related? 
  • What do the owls look like?
  • Where are the owls?
  • Why are they on a branch?
  • How does the young owl feel about flying?
  • What might the owls be thinking?
  • How does the big owl feel? Are they worried? Why?
  • What advice might the older owl give to the younger one?

 

Diary

Write a diary entry as if you were one of the owls in picture. What are you doing? Where are you? How do you feel? Are you worried about anything? What happened next?

 

Fact File

Research owls and write a fact file about them. 

Use these questions to help you:

  • What breeds of owl are there?
  • What do they look like?
  • How do they stay warm?
  • What is their habitat? (where do they live?)
  • What is their diet?
  • When do they learn to fly?
  • Interesting facts about them

Story

Write a story about the two owls in the picture.
