Keep sharing those bedtime stories!
There are many benefits to bedtime stories, however, it’s not just limited to creating magical memories and forming part of a routine that will help lull your child to sleep.
In fact, bedtime stories are proven to help foster a bond between parents and children, lower kids’ stress levels and reinforce their literacy skills and mastery of language.
If you have a wordless reading book, ask your child to tell you the story!
Wordless picture books are often quickly dismissed as being too easy. But they are a powerful tool in developing literacy skills. Understanding books without words involves interpreting the illustrations as there is no text to rely on. This promotes comprehension, vocabulary, and listening skills and an understanding of story structure and character development.
Don't forget, you can use images from anywhere to talk about, not just a book. Look at photographs, magazines or even just by looking out the window.
