Reading for pleasure
Reading for pleasure is hugely important.
Here children build a knowledge of story structures, develop vocabulary and enjoy reading.
We have been including a bedtime book that the children choose themselves as well as a school reading book. This is to extend the books they are exposed to at home but rereading favourite books from home, books from the library are all great ways to develop that love for reading. Also noticing words in the enviroment - reading menus, signs... all great ways to develop the children's understanding that print is all around us.
Often books that you read to them can give the best opportunity to discuss those questions about the story and develop those all important comprehension skills.
There are so many excellent books out there!
