Session 3

In this session we are going to think about some games we can play using the numbers we are working with. In school we would be doing this session over a couple of days and you are welcome to do the same.

You need someone to play against, either a sibling or adult.

Game 1 - you will need a tub, jumper, rope or dressing gown cord to make a target. You will need an even number of bean bags or balls or something you don't mind being gently thrown, ideally 10 to give 5 turns each.

Take it in turns to throw the bag or ball at the target.

Whoever lands the most wins.

Keep score as a tally, talk about the number of lines, compare to how it looks on your fingers and a five frame.

Game 2 - Card game (using the cards below or your own homemade ones)

Put the cards in a pile. Take turns choosing one, compare cards, the highest number wins.

Record the score using a tally, talk about the number of lines, compare to how it looks on your fingers and a five frame.

Game 3 - Dice game, take it in turns to roll the die, compare numbers, highest number wins. Record the score using a tally, talk about the number of lines, compare to how it looks on your fingers and a five frame.

Game 4 - Matching card game (using the cards below or your own homemade ones)

Group the cards according to the number they represent, whoever can group the most the fastest is the winner. For added challenge cards can be placed around the room/house or even hidden.

There are also some cut and stick matching activities below for you to match the number represented with its numeral.
