Superheroes who help us 25/1/ - /29/1

This week we are going to continue to think about some

REAL-LIFE SUPERHEROES

– People who help us.

Learning about this topic helps children to make connections between themselves and the outside world. It aims to make them more aware of the different jobs and roles people take on in their own homes, in school and in their local community. It can help allay fears for children who worry about going to visit medical specialists or have concerns about intruders or fire. By educating young children about the people who try and prevent these things happening or help us if they do, we are showing children the systems in place within our society to ensure that we live in a safe and supportive community. The topic also provides key life skills for children (for example, knowing how to dial the emergency services, who to ask if they get lost, how to test smoke alarms, etc.).

This topic can also encourage children to notice places and people in their community and show them that they are part of a wider community and may even open up possibilities for them to consider future careers. If taught well it can also play a major role in helping to break down gender stereotypes and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone.

I have made a folder for each day, and within each day you will then find folders for all the different sessions, Squiggle, Literacy, Phonics, Maths,

Creative Ideas and a Storytime folder too.

Where possible sessions and activities suggested aim to mirror what we would be doing in school,

helping you to keep your child progressing in their learning while they are at home.

Sessions are roughly 20 minutes although your child may want to focus longer.

Remember that you can practise name writing and letter and number formation at any time

(see our letter formation folder)

Please use Tapestry or the class emails to let us know how you are getting on, as well as how we can support you.

(lions@stjohnsworksop.snmat.org.uk  or  tigers@stjohnsworksop.snmat.org.uk)

If you need to be set up on Tapestry or have any problems with it please use a class email address to let us know.

REMEMBER

 You are superheroes too

You are doing an amazing job!

The school value of the week this week is

Peace

(I can find places of calm, silence and stillness or tranquility when there are disturbances or negative attitudes)

What does peace mean to you?

What do you do to find peace?

What will you do this week to show that you can be peaceful?
