Thursday 23rd April 2020

For today's English activity, choose one of the four writing activities to complete about the castle in the woodland picture below.

Setting Description

Use lots of adjectives and expanded noun phrases to describe the topical beach and add lots of detail.

Use the 5 senses to help you:

  • What can you see?

  • What can you hear?

  • What can you touch? How does it feel?

  • What does it smell like?

  • Can you taste anything?

  • Who would go there?

  • What is the weather like?

  • Where is the castle?

Character Description

Write a description about the girl in this picture.

Remember to use expanded noun phrases for detail.

Think about:

  • What does she look like?
  • What is she wearing?
  • What are they doing on the beach?
  • Why is she in the woodland?
  • How does she feel?
  • How did she get there?
  • What will she do?
  • Why is she alone?

Story

Write a story about the picture. The story could be about anything to do with the setting. You could write a fairytale story or an adventure story about the girl. It could even be a mystery story about her adventure in the castle.

Write the ending to this story

Timidly, she pushed back the branches and peered into the clearing. Sunshine drenched the ground as it poured through the canopy above.

She had been following the trail of clues for days, and she had finally reached her destination. Were the stories true? Was this really the place people in her village had talked about for centuries?

She hoped her own story would have a fairytale ending, but in the back of her mind a sickening thought arose – what if something more sinister waited ahead?
