For today's English activity, choose one of the writing activities to complete about VE Day Party. Look at the pictures below to help you.

 

Design a VE Day Sandwich and Write Instructions

Design a sandwich you could eat at a VE Day party. Think about interesting fillings you may have to make your sandwich taste delicious. Then write instructions for how make your sandwich. Use imperative (bossy) verbs and conjunctions, e.g. firstly, secondly, next, then, finally

You could test your instructions out to make the sandwich you have designed.

Diary or Newspaper Article

Write a diary or a newspaper article explaining what happened at the VE Day party. 

Diaries are written in the first person, e.g. I, me, my

Newspapers are written in the third person e.g. they, him, her, Harry

Write a Description of the VE Day Party

Write a description of what is happening at the VE Day party. Use lots of adjectives.

Use these questions to help you.

  • What can you see?
  • What does it look like? (remember the black and white photo is from the 1940s)
  • Who is there?
  • How do they feel? Why?
  • What can you smell?
  • What does the food taste like?
  • What can you hear? e.g. people laughing, music and children playing
