For today's English activity, choose one of the writing activities to complete about the pets. Look at the pictures of the pets below. 

 

Write an explanation text or instructions 

Write an explanation for how to look after a pet of your choice. This can be for a pet you have or want to have.

Use subtitles, such as diet or where they live. 

Think about:

  • Diet - What they eat. What food do you need to give them? When do you need to feed them? Do they have any treats?
  • Where they live. Where do they live? What does their environment need to be like? Where do they sleep? When do they sleep? What do they sleep on? Do they like it quiet?
  • Do they need cleaning out? How often do they need cleaning out?
  • How to play with them.
  • How they behave.
  • How to groom or brush them. 

 

Fact file

Research a pet of your choice and then write a fact file. Use full sentences.

Areas to think about:

  • What type of animal are they? Mammal, bird, amphibian, insect, fish
  • What breeds of animal are there?
  • What do they look like?
  • Their diet (what they eat)
  • What do they like to do?
  • When do they sleep?
  • Where are they from? (what country?)
  • Where do they live as pets? (cage, stable, in the house) Where do they live in the wild? (habitat) 
  • How they behave
  • Interesting facts

Diary about owning a pet or the day of a life of a pet

Write a diary entry about owning the pet and what you do each day to look after them. You could also write a diary entry imagining you are an animal explaining what you do each day. How does your owner look after to you? What do you do when your owner isn't there?

 

Description of a pet

Choose a pet and write a description about them.

Think about:

  • What they look like?
  • How do they stay warm?
  • What do they like to do?
  • What do they eat?
  • Where do they sleep? When do they sleep?
  • How do they feel when their owner isn't there?
  • How do they feel when their owner is there?
